2008 Broadband Olympics and Global Innovation and Mobile Technologies

"Scientific Olympics, Green Olympics, and Humanity Olympics" are three key concepts of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Scientific Olympics is not only a key factor that empowers China to win the bid to host the Olympic Games, but also a vital factor to ensure the Olympic Games runs smoothly in Beijing. The plenary panel will focus on the following aspects:

How to accomplish the strategy of Olympic-driven development by holding the Olympic Games with a developing insight, fulfilling the objective of "Scientific Olympics" and the concept of "New Beijing, New Olympics," and ensuring the Beijing 2008 Olympics will be the most advanced and excellent one that is held in Olympic history.

Based on Olympic telecom guarantee and information services, the contribution to running the 2008 Olympics as the first "Broadband Olympics" in its true sense by studying broadband telecom network arrangement, technical application, broadband content and applications, operation support, safety, stability, reliability, and guarantee in the 2008 Olympics, taking advantage of serving the Olympic Games and comprehensively upgrading the broadband network capacity and service quality.

The discussion of technological innovations and new technique application in ICT fields, socialization, mercerization and globalization of technology innovation during the period of "2008 Broadband Olympics."

Mr. Zhao has been in his current role since July 2004 and is the Beijing subsidiary of the company and the telecom services relevant to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He has served as vice president of China Netcom Group since July 2003. Before joining China Netcom Group, Mr. Zhao served as general manager of Beijing Communications Company from July 2002 to July 2003 and general manager of the former Beijing Telecommunications Company from May 2000 to July 2002.

Mr. Guo once worked in the science section of Sichuan Post & Telecom Management Bureau in 1995 and joined Huawei Technologies in 1996, where he took varied positions, including engineer in chief in the switching product department, director of the network marketing department, and vice president of corporate-level strategy planning. Many articles and papers of his got published in such fields as network planning and integrated solutions. With his devoted 12-year involvement in the telecom industry, Mr. Guo has gained keen insight and in-depth understanding in aspects such as SPC switching, soft switching/IMS, and broadband communication.

Guoli Ma

Mr. Ma has been in his current position since 2005. He is also a member of the TV commission of the IAAF. Mr. Ma was president of the China Sport Broadcaster Association and chairman of the China Sports Broadcasting Academy from 1993-2005. Previously, he founded CCTV Sports Channel (CCTV 5). Prior to that, Mr. Ma was the director of CCTV Sports, deputy director of CCTV Sports, and head of the new CCTV Sports. He graduated from Beijing Broadcasting University with a degree in TV production in 1982.

Maria Antonia Otero
Vice President, Innovation and Networks

Ms. Otero received her engineering degree from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid in 1980. She completed master studies, obtaining an executive management degree from IESE. In 1981 she joined the Studies and Research Center of Telefonica, where she has held several positions such as special projects manager and business communications manager. Last year Ms. Otero was appointed vice president of innovation at the Telefonica group level, and this year she was also designated vice president of networks.

Mr. Sha previously served as director of the engineering construction department IV division of Beijing Telecommunications Administration, president of Beijing Telecommunications Planning Design Institute, deputy director general of Beijing Telecommunications Administration, vice president of Beijing Mobile Communications Company, and director and vice president, chairman, and president of Beijing Mobile. He has more than 23 years of management experience in the telecom industry.

Yichun Yang

Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee
Mr. Yang presides over administrating the whole department's work, organizing the design, construction and operation of timing, scoreboard, and results system for game, and the system of stadiums' audio, video, and document processing. He organizes to provide communication services, including the use of radio frequency, and the fixing, moving, collecting, and transferring broadcast and television. Mr. Yang takes charge of the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the foundation and the network of Olympiad information technology.
