OVERVIEW

Next-generation networks (NGN) are converged voice/data architectures that will provide enhanced and innovative service capabilities—capabilities that will usher in the establishment of anywhere, anytime integrated communications. NGNs will offer service customization, integration, personalization, and portability; and they will feature interdependent and distributed intelligence at the edge, often in mobile terminals and Internet servers. NGNs will involve emerging technologies and will depend in large part on IP as a source of intelligence and as a transport medium.

Delivering value-added enhanced services over these types of packet-centric extranets, WANs, and mobile public networks will fundamentally change the way we live and do business. Greater connectedness will be achieved, as well as improved information management, multimedia services, and personalized communications. Companies that can deliver such services will thrive; those that cannot will eventually bow to market pressures.

To help communications companies meet the challenge of provisioning enhanced voice/data services on a converged network, the International Engineering Consortium is pleased to present the Enhanced Services on the Next-Generation Network Comprehensive Report. This publication examines a range of issues involved in NGN operations, such as unified messaging, mediation and signaling technologies, integration of intelligent networks and IP services, service creation and provisioning, protocols and standards for convergent networks, VPNs, mobile enhanced services, Internet telephony QoS and market drivers, OSS and network management, intelligent messaging, and more.

Drawing upon the expertise, insights, and real-world experience of leading industry professionals who are working to make enhanced voice/data services a reality, Enhanced Services on the Next-Generation Network offers an incisive and variegated overview of this exciting and important area of the telecom industry.   Copyright © 2005 International Engineering Consortium
