21st Century Technologies and Content for the Future Digital Home (Comprehensive Report)
Submission deadline: Friday, August 1, 2008

The International Engineering Consortium (IEC) is preparing to publish another volume in its series of comprehensive reports focused on "21st Century Technologies and Content for the Future Digital Home." Your company is invited to contribute a white paper on a related topic for publication in this report.

There are more than 250 million broadband subscribers across the world and, consequently, this has led to the digital home with networked electronics, appliances, TVs, game consoles, phones, and PCs. Having broadband technologies in the home allows instant access to information, remote control of household items, and educational environments for children. The home is also an extended segment of IP that has to form part of the access network in order to provide services, QoS, security, and end-to-end management. Personalized services and content is the new frontier. However, as innovative standards come about, service providers will face not only new consumer demands, but also strong competition from cable providers and mobile operators, all while seeking to provide these services for the first time at a high quality and meeting customers' expectations.

21st Century Technologies and Content for the Future Digital Home will explore the new home technologies available today and in the near future, the role of the gateways in the digital home, and how new delivery strategies can increase service providers' revenue.

If you have a contribution in line with these subject areas, we invite you to submit your paper for possible publication. Topics to be addressed in this report include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Open access networking
  • Network operators
  • Content and security
  • Corporate and business markets
  • End-user experience and value
  • Home networking management
  • Fixed and remote content sharing
  • Residential gateways and set-top boxes
  • Deployment and ownership options
  • Quality of service (QoS)
  • Consumer and ICT demands
  • Enterprise and government involvement
