As a further testimony of the viability of VToA technology, most major vendors have projects underway to develop networks that will support it in the marketplace. However, most current implementations are highly proprietary and incompatible with each other. Many smaller equipment vendors already have products that can be used as components to implement a VToA network.

Some major carriers have undertaken tests and trials of VToA services to validate the viability of the networking technology. There is one emerging wholesale network carrier that has implemented VToA and has been providing service for over one year using an open, systems-based platform.
