International Engineering Consortium
CTP – About

The Communications Technologies Program (CTP) consists of on-line courses designed for a wide range of industry professionals and educators.

Courses are structured to offer flexibility and convenience for busy working professionals who need to learn leading-edge technologies quickly. Courses are offered during six-to-eight-week terms, and class size is limited to maximize students' opportunities to interact with each other and the faculty members.

Individuals who successfully complete eight courses of the CTP will receive the IEC Certificate of Communications Technologies. All courses within the CTP may be taken on a noncredit, individual basis.

How are courses organized?
Each course is six to eight hours long and is organized into segments, permitting individuals to spend as little as 15 minutes per session learning an important concept. All course materials are self-contained and presented in a simulated classroom setting. Supplementary IEC educational resources enable the learners to have a virtual library at their disposal.

Best of all, students select the best time to study: at work, at home, or while traveling.

  • Courses feature highly experienced faculty from industry and academia.
  • Total course time of six to eight hours permits thorough coverage of the subject.
  • Courses are organized into modules, each focused on an important educational area.
  • Interactive discussion forums, lectures, questions, quizzes, and library resources aid learning.
  • Slides, graphics, and streaming audio and video of the professor simulate a classroom.
  • Extensive written course materials form a permanent course text and student notes.
  • Lively discussion boards present questions and elaborate on major points.

What opportunities will I have to interact with others?
Though the lectures are the most important source of knowledge, individuals will have opportunities to participate in discussions, explore supplementary materials, and network with classmates on-line.

Who should enroll in the CTP?
The IEC CTP is designed for professionals of all technical and nontechnical backgrounds seeking to learn about technologies in the communications industry. Participants ranging from entry-level professionals to seasoned managers would benefit, especially from the following industries:
  • Enterprise system developers
  • Local-exchange wireline carriers
  • Interexchange carriers
  • Infrastructure system suppliers
  • Software suppliers
  • Communications equipment manufacturers
  • Component manufacturers
  • Computer, terminal, and appliance manufacturers
  • Content suppliers
  • Consulting firms, educational institutions, and government agencies

Who are the CTP faculty?
The CTP faculty consists of highly experienced technical professionals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and teaching abilities. Faculty members are chosen from thousands of academia and industry professionals who have previously taught in IEC educational forums. They are considered the best of the best, returning the highest ratings from their students.

IEC Certification
Students who successfully complete eight courses and the summary examination will receive the International Engineering Consortium Certificate in Communications Technologies. The certification establishes the student as a professional who has achieved and demonstrated competency in communications technologies.

The certificate holder will benefit from the practical, real-world knowledge that is the centerpiece of each course. Combining theory and practical information increases the student's value as an employee.

Employers will benefit by having technically knowledgeable employees who have earned the IEC Certificate in Communications Technologies. This educational program is designed to enable employees to learn the most important subjects for their specific responsibilities as well as the employer's scope of business.

Can I take individual courses instead?
Yes. All courses within the IEC CTP may be taken individually on a noncredit, audit basis. This provides the professional, who needs to know a specific subject quickly, an opportunity to learn from a recognized expert. Students who later decide to pursue the eight-course requirements for IEC certification can apply all noncredit courses they have successfully completed at any time.
