What Makes IPTV Fly? — How to Increase the Success of Multi-Play Service Operators

IPTV has been a reality for the recent years already. The first successful IPTV deployments encourage further operators to go the same way. But are they economically successful? New entrants struggle to determine a positive business case. Which applications and business modes can make IPTV fly? What will be the impact for the operators?

The session shall cover experience sharing about the most recent application trends and business models. Covering new applications such as community TV, video communication, blogging, and TVoY and new revenue streams through cross-promotions and target advertisement. New business models such as hosted solutions and franchising extend the opportunities for multi-play service operators.

Mr. Stelzl is responsible for the overall technical architecture of the Nokia Siemens Networks Home Entertainment Solution. He is one of the key drivers since Siemens entered this business in 2003. Overall, Mr. Stelzl has more than 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to his engagement in Home Entertainment, he has been working in various leadership positions at Siemens, including SIP-based voice and multimedia services, innovation projects such as IP quality of service, and ATM switch development.

Mr. Borchers brings 10 years of experience in e-commerce and corporate management to Glowria's Video on Demand (VoD) department. He oversees the business development and marketing of Glowria's VoD services to ISPs, cable operators, retailers, and PC/consumer electronics providers. Prior to joining Glowria, Mr. Borchers co-founded and managed InVDeo GmbH. In just three years, he established a 30,000-customer base and secured strategic partnerships with Web.de, GMX, AOK, and the Deutsche Bank, turning the company into Germany's no. 2 on-line DVD rental service.

Mr. Maierhöfer's responsibilities comprise the management and planning of Nokia Siemens Networks complete media delivery solution portfolio, which includes mobile TV streaming, video and download solutions, as well as DVB-H and multicast-enabled TV. In addition, he is also responsible for defining and providing solutions in the area of converged TV and multi-channel advertisements. Mr. Maierhöfer has more than 15 years of experience in the wireless and application industries in more than 20 markets worldwide.

Ms. Schaefer manages all research and consulting and extensively monitors consumer market developments and the competition in the media industry. She analyzes the technologies and the overall market convergence, strategies, and infrastructure. Prior to joining Yankee Group, Ms. Schaefer worked for 15 years as a management consultant in the United States and Europe. She advised clients from the cable, TV, media, and investment industry — including Disney, Universal, Bertelsmann, AOL Time Warner, and NBC — in market entrance strategies, business planning, and marketing of new services.
Hugo Suidman

Mr. Suidman is responsible for the combination of marketing, sales, and communication of IPTV. In previous functions, he was responsible for the rollout of a retail channel of partner shops in Germany, participated in the team for the commercial development of i-mode in both Germany and the Netherlands, and had several commercial functions within mobile operators. Mr. Suidman has degrees in both company law and German linguistics.
