The Technology Theater at Broadband World Forum Asia will be host to live sessions, presented by industry-leading organizations. As part of the complimentary programming, these 20-minute sessions will feature an array of new products, services, and solutions presented by the product creators themselves.
After attending the presentations, attendees are invited to visit the exhibition stand of the presenter for a hands-on, detailed demonstration of the technologies presented.

"Fiber to the power pole — the innovative fiber access solution"
|

The combination of Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) and Broadband over Power Line (BPL) enables the telecommunication carriers and the power utilities to deploy a FTT-BPL (Fiber-to-the-BPL) broadband access network, using low voltage power lines for 'last mile' access to the home, instead of leasing copper pairs.
The fiber distribution network provides downstream rates of 2.5 Gbps, this can be shared between 16 or 32 BPL gateways (depending on the end user bandwidth requirements), BPL chipsets provide downstream rates of up to 200 Mbps which can be shared between the end users. The combination of GPON plus BPL is a cost effective way of meeting the bandwidth requirements for broadband access services such as Internet access, voice over IP and IPTV. A further advantage of this architecture is that FTT-BPL can be upgraded to FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) at a later time, should there be a demand for even higher bandwidth services. It is also important to note the BPL networks allow an efficient way to build SmartGrid networks, which can result in deploying more efficient energy networks and creating a greener environment. |

Network Traffic Management Made Easy
|
![]() |
| The young history of Internet bandwidth management is full of lessons learnt — and not yet learnt. On one side, ISPs are struggling to curb their operational costs they see rising due to high- bandwidth applications such as file sharing and media streaming. On the other side, these often are the very kind of services that make customers decide to subscribe to broadband access. As in any commercial market, the companies should listen to their customers, and not the other way round. Looking at their network usage patterns provides indispensable information about successful and failing business models. Based on real- world traffic data, this presentation shows some simple yet commercially viable approaches to Internet traffic management. | |

Answering to a Higher GPON Quality of Experience
|
![]() |
| To expand capacity of the access network, most operators have selected Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) as the preferred technology and are performing field trials to determine best strategies for rollout. Some have already started initial deployment with considerable investments in infrastructure. GPON infrastructure provides the needed high bandwidth, but bandwidth capacity alone does not ensure the required end-user Quality of Experience (QoE) that operators need to provide differentiated services. Advanced Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms must also be built into the GPON equipment. This presentation describes the QoS challenges that must be addressed in the deployment of GPON services, illustrates the adverse effects of poorly performing networks, and suggests how GPON equipment should be employed to meet the challenges. | |
