Broadband wireless access (BWA) technologies are becoming extremely important to vendors, and standardization bodies respond to this development with new and powerful BWA technologies. Supporting transmission rates up to several megabits per second at distances as tens of kilometers while providing full mobility support, these BWA technologies provide the long-awaited means for delivering any telecommunication service over the Internet.
BWA technologies are still in their infancy, and one outcome is that many are far from being complete and optimized for such a versatile environment such as the Internet. Consequently, BWA is currently receiving much attention from the research community. By organizing this broadband wireless forum, it is our intention to bring together and provide an international forum for this research community. In this line, the Poster Session program covers various aspects of these technologies, including, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Interoperability aspects (fixed/mobile LANs, MANs, WANs)
- Capacity planning and traffic engineering
- Physical and data link-layer issues
- Network management
- Radio resource management, admission control, and scheduling
- Future BWA technologies, 802.16x, 802.20, UMTS, 802.16m: gigabit WiMAX
- WiMAX, HSPA, and fixed wireless
The Technical Paper Review Committee has short-listed 14 abstracts-11 from Hong Kong and three from mainland China. The IET Poster Session is located on the exhibit floor, and presentations from authors will be available from 14:00 – 17:00.
A judging panel will be present at the event to select winners for the Gold Prize (HKD3000), Silver Prize (HKD2000), Bronze Prize (HKD1000) and five Certificates of Merit. Prizes and certificates will be awarded at a private reception on 17 July.
These Poster Sessions will be of special interest to planners, network operators, engineers, researchers, academia, consultants, and government officials of all aspects of wireless broadband communications. It will also attract manufacturers and suppliers of network switching centers, base station equipment, and end-user devices.
