OLYMPIC UPDATE: Olympic Telecommunications Solutions

The grand opening of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will occur at 20:00 8 August. How do you want to participate in the Olympic Games and experience the theme of “One World One Dream?” How can technology enhance the enjoyment level of the Games to households all over the world?

China Netcom, the official fixed telecom partner of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, has partnered with PCCW, the supplier of the fixed telecommunication services for the Equestrian Game in Hong Kong, to provide high-definition multimedia solutions from Beijing to rest of the world. With the introduction of HDTV for the first time at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, there is a transformation in the traditional content contribution and distribution technology for most content providers. Jointly with China Netcom, PCCW Global is offering broadcasters and press media an end-to-end one-stop solution connecting them from Beijing IBC or MPC directly to their home country. For the applications and software, Huawei has advanced their products and solutions to cater for the Games.

In this session, China Netcom will share its experience in designing and building the telecommunications infrastructure for the Olympics, especially the technology advancement in deploying the HD applications and content. PCCW Global will share the advanced solutions designed to manage a reliable transmission of HD– as well as SD–quality content for the Olympics.
