For the past several years, peer to peer (P2P) is becoming a new mode of content distribution. P2P technology and software clients are becoming mainstream components. Initially dedicated to file transfer, P2P technology is also able to carry streams and emulate broadcasting. In the minds of many people, P2P is closely associated to piracy. Nevertheless, P2P is a technology that may bring advantages to the broadband world. This session will explore the pros and cons of P2P.

Mr. Diehl has been in his current position since 2004, where he drives all security-related research for Thomson. Previously, he led the French security team of Thomson Corporate Research. Mr. Diehl initially joined Thomson in 1987 in the Corporate Research division after graduating. He worked on pay TV, security, home networking, and user interface and was one of the designers of the Videocrypt pay TV system. Mr. Diehl filed more than 75 patents in the fields of security, pay TV, and user interface and published many papers.

Shashi Kaligotla

Over the past 13 years, Mr. Kaligotla has been involved in designing networks and implementing solutions for carriers, service providers, and enterprises. In the past he has worked for TEMs, carriers, and security companies such as Verisign, NORTEL, Lucent, and KPN. Mr. Kaligotla was the founder and director for Polycom ODC in India, which was later acquired by Polycom, Inc. In his current role, Mr. Kaligotla specializes in telecommunications and heads the VoIP division of NGN at Tech Mahindra. He advocates peer-to-peer implementations for providing faster and more efficient service delivery to the last mile in the network. Mr. Kaligotla has architected solutions based on P2P for content delivery, enterprise VoIP, and P2P-based contact center solutions.

Mr. Lau has been in his current position since 2006. His responsibilities include P2P caching solution design and implementation for the Asia-Pacific customers. Prior to his current position, Mr. Lau was senior product marketing manager of INS (Data Networking group and Broadband Access), the Lucent unit that designs and delivers wireline networks for the world's largest communications service providers. He has more than 15 years of experience in technical pre-sales and post-sales supports, solutions development, and sales and project management, as well as rich international experience all around China and Asia to work with customers and channel partners in all levels.
