The Future of Television: Over-the-Top Video versus IPTV
D2
In some Asian countries, broadband speeds are reaching 1 Gbps, which is more than enough to deliver HD-quality video services. This reality sets the stage for over the top (OTT) video services, which could compete with traditional IPTV services. In some countries, IPTV deployments by operators have been slowed due to regulatory and technical issues. This has given OTT video services such as YouTube a window to proliferate and to thrive. In addition, there are P2P technologies emerging that are designed to facilitate the delivery of OTT video services.
This panel of experts will examine key questions, including the following:
- Will OTT video and IPTV compete with or complement each other?
- Does the emergence of P2P technologies for video distribution change the way networks should be built and managed?
- How can operators leverage their networks to provide an integrated service so consumers can access any video service easily from multiple devices?
