This session reviews different successful strategies from a range of players, providing an insight into both the strategy and also the need for flawless execution in order to achieve success in a highly competitive market space.

Mr. Blacker is currently in BT's 21C GV team responsible for sharing, on a commercial basis, BT's NGN experience with other companies outside the United Kingdom. He was previously in BT's Group Portfolio Strategy team with responsibilities for new growth opportunities. Prior to that, Mr. Blacker was in BT's Group Strategy with specific responsibility for BT's group-wide broadband strategy for both access and applications. He has been involved in the Internet and multimedia space for many years and was previously head of Strategy for BT Openworld - BT's ISP. Mr. Blacker has held a wide range of roles at BT in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland.

Previously, as vice president of consulting systems engineering, he led Sandvine's team of professional service experts and tool development engineers who provide technical expertise and leadership in network and security challenges. Before Sandvine, Mr. Bowman was director of firmware and manager of software engineering for PixStream.

Patrick Matthews

Mr. Matthews focuses on creating APAC services strategies for Alcatel-Lucent and its clients. Prior to joining Alcatel-Lucent in 2004, he served as a senior research analyst at The Yankee Group, where he covered optical and Ethernet products/technologies and network services for carriers. Mr. Matthews has also served as a senior firewall engineer at Fidelity Investments, where he implemented and managed a secure network infrastructure that handled approximately 12 percent of Wall Street's daily trading volume. Mr. Matthews earned a B.S. degree in computer engineering from Boston College.

Mr. Piper has more than 10 years of experience in market development, research, and consulting in the information technology and telecommunications sectors. His experience spans the globe and includes substantial background in the European and Asia-Pacific markets. As BNS director, his focus is on the intersection of consumer broadband and digital TV access (including DSL, cable, satellite networks, and wireless) and residential content distribution. In addition, he covers service provider strategy, enabling technology, and consumer adoption trends and forecasts.

Alexander Puregger

Before joining FON, Mr. Puregger worked for more than eight years as strategy consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH). At BAH he focused mostly on strategic projects in fixed/mobile telecommunications and media. Mr. Puregger helped establish the BAH office in Vienna and led BAH's telecommunications team in Madrid, Spain. He has worked in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and is fluent in four languages. Mr. Puregger holds a degree in international business administration from the University of Vienna and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
