Julio Linares was appointed chief operating officer of Telefónica S.A. in December 2007. In December 2005, he
became director-general for co-ordination, business development, and synergies at Telefónica S.A., where he has a
seat on the Board and is the secretary of the Executive Committee. In June 2005, he was named chairman of the
supervisory board at Cesky Telecom, where he is currently the deputy chairman. He was appointed chief executive
of Telefónica de España in January 2000. In May 1998, he became director-general for Strategy and Technology.
In July 1997, he was appointed managing director of Telefónica Multimedia. In December 1994, he took over as deputy
director-general for Marketing and Development of Services in Telefónicaís Commercial Area and then as assistant
director-general for Business Marketing. In April 1990, he became director general of Telefónica Investigación
y Desarrollo. Julio Linares joined Telefónica in May 1970 and held several positions before being appointed director
of Telefónicaís Technology and Technical Regulations Department in 1984.
