Ben Verwaayen

Chief Executive Officer

Alcatel-Lucent

Mr. Verwaayen was recently named the CEO of Alcatel-Lucent. He was appointed to the Board of BT and became chief executive in 2002. He left BT Group in June 2008. Prior to BT Group, he was with Lucent Technologies, where he served as vice chairman of the management board. Previous to this Mr. Verwaayen was executive vice president and chief operating officer and executive vice president of international. Mr. Verwaayen has been made an honorary knight of the British Empire (KBE) and in June 2006 he received the Chevalier de la Légion d 'Honneur medal.
