Microsoft for Xbox 360 with Mediaroom
Xbox 360 with Mediaroom is a first-of-its-kind solution that brings together Microsoft’s leading IPTV and multimedia software platform and the Xbox 360 to deliver the very best in gaming, social networking, and digital TV in a powerful, all-in-one entertainment experience.
Xbox 360 with Mediaroom gives consumers all the benefits of a full-featured digital pay TV service coupled with the benefits of next-generation gaming, as well as unique new capabilities that are only possible on the integrated solution.
For service providers, the unique combined entertainment experience of Xbox with Mediaroom offers a powerful competitive differentiator, enabling them to deliver a more compelling service offering while reaching a valuable consumer segment: gamers. Xbox 360 with Mediaroom also allows service providers to leverage the strong Xbox brand to build new sources of revenue, reduce subscriber churn, and acquire new customers.
At CES in January 2008, BT Vision became the first service provider to announce plans to launch a service on Xbox 360 with Mediaroom.
BT Vision on Xbox 360 with Mediaroom will enable BT Vision customers to use an Xbox 360 to enjoy all its existing features as well as its extensive library of on-demand content, giving instant access to hundreds of movies and thousands of hours of sporting events, television programming, music videos, and other digital content such as BT Vision Sport’s 242 “near-live” FA Premier League football matches, as well as any recordings from live TV.
The service also enables a multi-room proposition and greater convenience in accessing VoD and DVR content. For example customers can watch BT Vision VoD on the Xbox 360 or watch BT Vision VoD on their V-box and watch a previously DVR’ed show recorded on the V-box from the Xbox in another room. This marks the first time that consumers can access streamed VoD and enjoy whole-home DVR support from a gaming console.
Xbox LIVE, the largest on-line social network in the living room, will be seamlessly integrated into the experience, providing consumers with a wide range of community-based features such as voice chat, sending and receiving text and voice messages, and accessing Xbox LIVE Marketplace, all while watching TV. For example, while a TV viewer is enjoying his favorite football game, he can receive a message from a friend inviting him to join a voice chat, or they could play a game of their own with EA SPORTS™ FIFA Soccer.
