The diverse backgrounds allow the session to provide a balanced insight on the drivers and restraints of the femtocell business case, in all its dimensions: technology, standards, ecosystems, regulatory conditions, and market economics.

Mr. Pellegrini is responsible for the strategic marketing and innovation of Pirelli Broadband Solutions, with a portfolio comprising residential and business access gateways, set-top boxes, home-networking technologies, dual-mode terminals, remote management systems, and vertically integrated solutions. With more than 12 years of experience in the telecommunications sector, he has held management positions in R&D, project management, and system engineering. In the Broadband Access business, Mr. Pellegrini has led the introduction of innovations in the areas of remote management, fixed-mobile convergence, and service-oriented access gateways.

Stuart Carlaw

Mr. Carlaw holds a program management role for ABI Research's Mobile Wireless Practice, which includes coordinating and planning its wireless infrastructure, wireless semiconductor, femtocell, mobile device, and consumer and business mobility research services. He is also lead analyst for the femtocell and mobile devices research services. Prior to joining ABI Research, Mr. Carlaw was a telecommunications technician in the British Army, then senior analyst, and later wireless research director at IMS Research. At IMS he was the primary Bluetooth analyst and was responsible for all short-range wireless research. Mr. Carlaw earned an honors B.Sc. in physical sciences and business management from De Montfort University.

Daniele Franceschini

Mr. Franceschini follows the wireless access innovation activities inside Telecom Italia Lab with particular focus on all the radio innovation aspects and technologies related to the radio access network and its evolution. At Telecom Italia he followed many aspects related to radio access technologies, including standardization activities and deployment aspects of new radio access technologies.

Timo Hyppölä

Mr. Hyppölä currently heads Indoor Radio Solutions Product Line in Radio Access Business Unit of Nokia Siemens Networks; and in that role drives for an open industry ecosystem for Femtocells. He joined Nokia in 1998. Since then, he has been holding several positions in Corporate Headquarters, Networks, and Radio Access areas. Mr. Hyppölä holds a M.Sc. degree in Economics from the Helsinki School of Economics.

Simon Saunders

Professor Saunders is one of the world's leading authorities on femtocells and is currently chairman of the Femto Forum, where he works to drive the uptake of femtocell technologies through open standards, market education, and ecosystem development. He is an independent wireless communications specialist with more than 20 years of industry experience.

Francis Schmitt

Mr. Schmitt's key responsibilities are to manage the global UMTS portfolio, including access, OA&M, and chipsets/terminals. This includes portfolio strategy, definition, delivery, 3G product marketing, IOT, and introduction into customer networks. Prior to taking up this position Mr. Schmitt was director of UMTS UTRAN product management from 2003 to 2006 and was director of UMTS program management from 2000 to 2003, delivering industry-leading UMTS solutions to global customers at Nortel. He also held several senior management positions at Nortel from 1995 to 2000. Mr. Schmitt holds an engineer diploma in electrical engineering from the Institute National des Sciences Appliquées in Lyon, France.
