As Ethernet evolves from the Enterprise LAN to the Metro Ethernet Network, Fiber access and its associated Operation, Administration and Management (OAM) tools are evolving to support the demand for carrier-class network reliability and Service Level Agreements (SLA). This presentation provides an overview of Ethernet in the First Mile fiber access, reviews the functions of Network Interface Devices, and discusses the benefits and limitations of the IEEE 802.3ah OAM standard.

Arie Goldberg Chief Technologist and CEO Omnitron Systems Technology, Inc.

Arie Goldberg is co-founder of Omnitron Systems Technology, Inc. where he serves as Chief Technologist and CEO. Before Omnitron, Mr. Goldberg directed the development of numerous telecommunication and computing products for Western Digital, Alcatel, Modcomp and Myrias Research. He holds BSc.EE and MSc.EE degrees, and is an active member of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).
