Role of Ethernet in Supporting Converged Services
15:30 – 17:00 | Monday, 26 March
This session will consider some of the latest technology innovations and techniques that will enable a mixture of legacy services and new packet-based services to be supported on a converging NGN of the future as follows:
- Impacts of converged services over Ethernet in the transport and switching network.
- Network requirements for transport, switching, and delivery of converged services over Ethernet.
- Issues in the network comparing VLAN stacking and the use of PBT, PBB, and MAC.
- Service delivery technologies such as point-to-point fiber, PON (Ethernet PON, GPON, etc.), VDSL, ADSL 2/2+, 2 Base TL, etc.
- QoS impacts on legacy services when over Ethernet (POTS, TDM leased lines) and the need for synchronization over Ethernet.
- The ability to carry legacy and new services over the NGN and the impacts on operations and support systems.
- The use of QoS in the network to differentiate services.
- The challenge of PSTN migration, including residential and business services.
- Impacts on operators, OSS, support systems, operations, etc.
