Benefits of FTTx
The established revenue streams of fixed line network operators are under threat from competing network infrastructures and fixed / mobile replacement. The development of triple play service offerings requiring higher bandwidth is one alternative to stabilize revenues and margins. Fibre-to-the-node (FTTN), Fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) and Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network architectures provide higher access capacities in conjunction with ADSL2plus, VDSL2 and optical network solutions. We will discuss the benefits and the Pros/Cons of the various solutions with regard to the existing network infrastructure, the regulatory environment and last but not least the available funding.
