Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) is considered to be one of the main (r)evolutions in the telco industry for the coming 15-20 years.
Recent contracts awarded by operators, municipalities and utility companies around the world, show that GPON is becoming the reference technology for very high-speed, next-generation broadband FTTH access.
During this TecPreview, we will put the three main FTTH technologies (GPON, EPON and Point-to-Point Ethernet) versus each other, and enter into a hands-on feature analysis.
In a second part, an outline will be presented of how players around the world have identified, selected and deployed the FTTH topology that fits best their needs - followed by a short introduction to Alcatel-Lucent's related "Fiber to the Most Economical Point" strategy.
