IPTV: Markets; Technologies, and Best Practices
Half-Day Workshop 4

A few years ago IPTV represented an opportunity for carriers to increase ARPU and mitigate the loss of wireline customers.

Today, IPTV is a requirement for carriers. While most carriers small or large are struggling to deploy video-ready networks, none of them has decided to stop their effort. By all accounts, the cost of deploying IPTV is high — much higher than anyone had anticipated. However, when compared to the price for not deploying such networks, IPTV remains the only attractive growth opportunity. There are several network architecture options, marketing approaches, and manifold business models, but the industry has reached an age of reason.

The goal of the IPTV workshop is to provide baseline knowledge to attendees in the areas of marketing, product portfolios, and networking architectures for IPTV. An overview of what has been done, what has worked, and what has failed will be provided to the audience. Operators and network equipment providers will share some experiences gained in real deployments. Finally, an outlook on the future of IPTV will be presented.
