The purpose of this paper is to provide a general planning and best practices guideline for deploying a GPON-based network. The focus is primarily on the passive optical portion of the network, which spans from the central office to the outside plant, and termination at the customer premises. The presentation will help service providers to better plan, organize, and determine outside/inside plant as well as customer-premises requirements.

Mr. Ghoddoussi has worked on fiber access solutions in marketing and business development at Alcatel for more than seven years. His responsibilities also include network design, business case modeling, outside plant design, network engineering, and integration of enhanced services over FTTH. Mr. Ghoddoussi's previous experience includes system engineering in mobile switching and design/test engineering for SONET transport products.
