Building the Highway to Transport Packet Network for Fixed-Mobile Convergence Scenario
G1

The packet-based transport network is the target of the transport layer evolution, but the critical issue is how to reach the target scenario. The control layer is facing its own evolution aspects involving FMC and IMS architectures, resulting in additional requirements over the transport layer, not just due to new services' parameters involving concerns of QoS, security, and flexibility, but also due to the QoE of the services, resource admission control, etc. Besides the challenge to address the requirements of new services, the transport highway has to address the migration of existing classical services, which will remain to be required from access and control layers.

This session will discuss the most recent advances of the technological field in transport area technologies such as ASON, GMPLS, ROADMs, PXC, PBB-TE/PBT, T-MPLS, Synch-E, and NTPV4 and their impact and usability in the network solutions of a transport packet network for an FMC scenario.
