Facing the Challenges of Future Optical Transport Packet-Based Network
B5

In the near future, multimedia services will be increasingly requested by residential and corporate users. While in the residential arena the main lever is the evolution of IPTV services toward an interactive and personalized service, in the corporate arena business users will require more flexible and on-demand bandwidth usage and pricing. Both environments require network topologies and architectures with a high degree of QoS, security, availability, and flexible and cost-effective broadband deployment. A future-proof optical transport packet network is the basis for guaranteeing that all end users' and service providers' demands are fulfilled.

The session will discuss how these challenges and requirements will be supported through this future optical, the alternative network architectures and topologies toward an all-IP network, as well as the technological and economical benefits of introducing ASON, ROADM, PXC, T-MPLS/PBT, etc.
