Ethernet Point-to-Point (E-P2P) Fiber Solutions for Operators
Tuesday, 9 October | 14:00 – 14:20

Many service providers are generally thinking about two basic fiber network architectures today. The first option that seems to become popular for incumbents is GPON as an example of point-to-multipoint topology (P2MP) and second is Ethernet point-to point (E-P2P) as a competitive solution widely chosen by alternative service providers. Both technologies can serve short-, mid- or long-future service needs, but there are more important questions to be answered. How strict regulatory rules will be accepted? What will be the equipment life cycle? How big CAPEX and OPEX are expected with regard to technology complexity? How many BPON/EPON/GPON ports have been sold until today? Is GPON exploitation on mass-marker realistic? Many GPON myths have been published by some big vendors and incumbents made their plans based on it. Correct or not? Not only alternative, but also incumbents decided E-P2P solution will be beneficial in many respects. This is going to be presented with the real example of the national incumbent decided for E-P2P.
