Computers have long been the typical end-user device for broadband applications such as web browsing and email. But we are now witnessing a movement towards multimedia applications and services. But what about access, above and beyond computers, to content such as music, video, VoIP and podcasts?
This session will encompass the views of service providers and device manufacturers. It will provide an outlook on concepts for new and exciting communication and entertainment applications. It will also describe how new types of residential equipment may fuel demand for services and how service providers may benefit.
Topics to be addressed in this session include trends in service providers' video offerings and their impact on video receivers SoC design (System-on-Chip), High Definition VoIP Services enabled by upcoming DECT CAT-iq, lowered inhouse connectivity barriers with new wireless technologies (802.11n Draft), subsciption-based music streaming services' implications for DRM, personalized internet radio, easy access to local content (e.g. photos, music, videos), device form factors, the role of the Residential Gateway, and strategies to manage devices.
