FTTx: Commercial, Technical, and Regulatory Challenges
C6
The established revenue streams of fixed-line network operators are under threat from competing network infrastructures and fixed-mobile replacement. The development of triple-play service offerings requiring higher bandwidth is one alternative to stabilize revenues and margins. Fiber-to-the-node (FTTN), fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network architectures provide higher access capacities in conjunction with ADSL2plus, VDSL2, and optical network solutions. We will discuss the benefits and the pros and cons of the various solutions with regard to the existing network infrastructure, the regulatory environment, and last but not least, the available funding.
