Fixed-mobile convergence solutions are ideally suited for hybrid operators but also allow fixed and mobile operators to build diverse business models using other operators' and partners' assets such as broadband access or cellular radio networks.
For those operators that own only fixed or mobile networks, strategic decisions are required today to determine the best solutions for growing business and retaining customers. The promise of fixed-mobile convergence means personalization and mobility for the end user, with easy access to services irrespective of location and device, bringing new opportunities to enhance voice services, reduce OPEX, and introduce new multimedia applications.
New technologies such as VoIP have enabled new business models, and this has created a more challenging and complex competitive landscape than ever before. Fixed-mobile convergence is all about creating new value for operators and their customers, as well as minimizing operational costs.
Which experiences and learnings have been made? Can operators really cut OPEX with one unified service machinery for both fixed and mobile services?
