Collaborating with Web Service Content Providers
A4

Service providers (SPs) face growing challenges from many sources, including nonfacilities-based or web service content providers. Voice, video, and data services offered by Web SPs frequently represent service substitution and pricing threats to SPs. Additionally, Web services have significantly increased the average user's bandwidth utilization, yet simultaneously "all-you-can-eat" access service offerings from SPs face pricing pressure. However, many SPs have recognized that these services are an opportunity. Web applications are driving greater penetration of high-speed consumer broadband. Likewise, Web-based voice and video services are time-sensitive, creating opportunities for guaranteed service delivery. This session elaborates on different approaches SPs are taking to collaborate with Web services players to monetize these applications, as well as to enhance their own service portfolio. The session discusses how providers' networks are fundamental enablers of collaboration and examines how SPs can make incremental service infrastructure improvements to build an extensible foundation for this relationship.
