WiMAX: Technology, Business Drivers, and Impact on 3G

WiMAX is evolving from fixed to portable to mobile. As fixed/portable WiMAX-certified products are available, what role will mobile WiMAX play? The session will discuss mobile WiMAX technology, WiBro deployment status, and WiBro services in Korea. As KT rolled out mobile WiMAX, so called WiBro, in Korea in June 2006, KT and Samsung will also share what they learn from WiBro commercial service. The session will also discuss various WiMAX technologies, the future of WiMAX, business drivers, services, and WiMAX's impact on 3G in global marketplaces.

Dr. Song is responsible for new business development and marketing for the WiBro (Mobile WiMAX) solution worldwide. Prior to joining Samsung, he worked for US West for more than five years in the new technology infrastructure, systems engineering, and software development areas. He worked also for Bellcore and AT&T Bell Laboratories. Dr. Song holds a Doctorate in computer science, a Master of Science, and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering.

Mr. Ciarniello is involved in the road mapping, business evaluation, and development of new technologies. Previously he was with Telecom Italia Mobile in charge for planning of innovative technologies, network plan evaluation for international development initiatives, and supervision of network plans of affiliate companies. Mr. Ciarniello has been chairman of the European Radio Messaging System MoU. He has a mobile technology and network planning background.

Dr. Kim is mainly in charge of content planning and development, terminal platform development, and service platform development. Joining KT in 1985, he worked in the quality assurance center, wireless laboratory, IMT Business Group, and so on. Dr. Kim also played roles as a director in KT subsidiary companies such as KTF and KTICOM.

Mr. Orangi has been leading introduction of many new technologies over the years and has extensive experience in cost modeling and development of a total network transformation from legacy SDH/ATM and TDM to a full IP converged network. He has extensive experience in IT and network architecture, design, and implementation of advanced fixed and wireless technologies for delivery of converged voice and data broadband services for residential and business segments. Prior to joining H1, Mr. Orangi spent seven years at Versatel as a manager of corporate development, leading network strategy for Germany, Holland, and Belgium.
