Packet based channel bonding
ARRIS will demonstrate its FlexPath™ channel-bonding capability available on the Cadant® C4® CMTS. The FlexPath Channel Bonding feature requires only a simple software upgrade to any of the Cadant C4 chassis already installed in many MSO headends. Up to four independent channels in the downstream direction will be de-multiplexed at the FlexPath wideband modem, which is installed at the wideband residential or enterprise customer's premises. Up to 160 Mbps can be delivered downstream. Another four independent, aggregated DOCSIS channels form the return path from the wideband modem to provide very high data throughputs of up to 120 Mpbs upstream. ARRIS will show a practical example of a multiple-computer household in which several applications require significant upstream bandwidth between multiple sources and multiple destinations:
  • An FTP download achieving speeds of up to ~140Mbps)
  • Up to 4 simultaneous FTP uploads achieving aggregate speeds of up to ~90Mbps.
  • Simultaneous support for legacy modems in a wideband channel
Attendees will also see the many financial and architectural efficiencies of deploying an I-CMTS solution using the same Cadant C4 CMTS or, later, an M-CMTS with ARRIS Keystone™ D5™ Edge QAM solution. This architecture will deliver MPEG video traffic along with the DOCSIS® traffic over a converged network while supporting operators' installed base of today's DOCSIS 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 modems, as well as PacketCable™ and SIP E-MTAs.
