Q: How important is continuing professional education in our industry?
A: The industry is moving incredibly fast. Since the internet arrived around 10 years ago it has moved from a snail-like dial-up network for enthusiasts to a fast information path which is now core to pretty much any business - large or small. Keeping up with trends like that is an essential part of the job. If you don't understand IP and the services which can run on it, then your future communications career is likely to be short lived! Reading the press is part of it, but attending industry events is an invaluable way of keeping up to date with what is going on in the wider industry.
Q: What do you feel attendees can gain from your session?
A: The session will cover a number of the key issues which are facing operators as they roll out all-IP networks including convergence, triple-play and devices in the home. I will be talking specifically about technical issues within the networks and at the borders between networks.
Q: What do you plan to talk about?
A: The main keys in the transformation (customer habits, new services,...), the impact on the networks (access, transport, core), the instability of the existing model and the need for a new scenario in the near future.
Q: How important is continuing professional education in our industry?
A: It is key. The changes happen so quickly that the main subjects of today where not even identified a few years ago.
