Plenary Panel
Internet 2.0 - Services and Implications for Network Operators
16:00 – 17:15 | Monday, 9 October
The first wave of the Internet-Web pages and HTML-based content is on the verge of yielding to a new incarnation: a next-generation Internet that brings information and services to individuals regardless of their location, access network, or device. It is an Internet that will "find" users and deliver information and services tailored to preferences and demands without end users having to log on, sign in, or search for particular resources. This "Internet 2.0" will take advantage of increasingly pervasive network intelligence, ubiquitous mobile and fixed broadband networks, and orchestrated services control across platform types and service providers. It will extend beyond the residence and office to encompass cars, cafes, beaches, airports, or wherever users of broadband services may wish to access these applications.
This session will examine the network, technologies, and services that will comprise the Internet 2.0. Panelists will discuss the likely time frame for its advent and the implications for service providers of all varieties. What will be the effect of Internet 2.0 on current network operator systems? What kinds of investments and product strategies will be required to facilitate this next-generation Internet? What are the business models and revenue prospects for carriers? Join us as we look into the near future of the Internet and what it means for all players in the communications industry.
