The Interaction between Operator-Managed CPE, Home Networking, and IMS
13:00 – 14:30 | Thursday, 12 October

Initial deployments of triple-play service offerings and bundles will soon be commonplace. Although price-attractive triple-play bundles will initially be important, long-term success will require a broader approach. Success will require providers to integrate service, network, and CPE components into holistic solution offerings, a differentiator for delivering broadband solutions beyond basic IP telephony, IPTV, and high-speed Internet access. This session will look into a number of commercial and technical challenges and solutions that service providers need to deal with when expanding their portfolio of managed and personalized services to the home. The focus will be on the following:
  • Integrated home networking solutions between IP devices in the home, media servers, residential gateways, and IP set-top boxes
  • Defining common function criteria and capabilities for subscriber and service management
  • Interworking with the application- and service-control layers defined in IMS
  • Migration of existing and separate service and system architectures toward a common converged solution (utilizing the benefits of fixed-mobile convergence in the home)
