Designing and Deploying IPTV: A Balanced Case

  • Current environment for IPTV, including the immediate business case for IPTV in terms of market opportunity and technical requirements
  • How to deploy IPTV services, including key upgrade issues
  • Pitfalls and how to avoid them, including case studies, service lifecycle, and equipment management and replacement
  • Future changes affecting IPTV, including network capabilities, HDTV, security, and conditional access

Mr. Main has more than twenty years of experience in the telecommunications industry and specializes in the exploitation of network technologies and their effect on new network services and architectures. As an accomplished professional in next-generation networks, he has written reports on metropolitan-area networks, digital subscriber lines, multiprotocol label switching, gigabit Ethernet, home networks, broadband service activation, and consumer voice over IP. He is a member of the Broadband@Ovum advisory service team and has also written reports for IP-Enterprise@Ovum and Mobile@Ovum. He has also been a team member of several consulting projects concerned with corporate finance, company product strategy, and new-build network opportunities.

Prior to joining Alcatel, Mr. Lartigue worked as a manager in the management consulting firm the Boston Consulting Group (Paris and Dallas offices). He has been an active member of the Technology and Communication Practice, involved with worldwide telecom and chipset vendors and with U.S./European telecom operators. He has dealt with a variety of issues, including innovation and new product development, market entry strategies and planning, and mergers. Mr. Lartigue has also been deputy director general in Vision 1250, the European group for the development of high-definition and digital television. He was in charge of major events engineering, market strategies, worldwide promotion, and R&D/project financing.

Benjamin Schwarz

Mr. Schwarz is a passionate senior executive with 18 years of international experience in consulting and telco organizations where his innovation and technology leadership help secure positions in emerging markets. He has proven himself an innovative and hands-on manager in Internet start-ups. Benjamin has extensive experience in Web portals, search engines, music distribution, and TV and video services, areas of expertise that all converge. Mr. Schwarz joined France Telecom Group in 2001, where he runs international TVoDSL deployments. Before that, he was technical lead of the first group-wide music distribution platform, and prior to that, he managed R&D projects in the information access space.

Mr. Shah is a veteran of the telecommunications and networking industry with more than 20 years of experience with responsibilities such as general management, marketing, sales, strategic planning, business development, and engineering management. Over the past decade, Mr. Shah has been involved in development of video, broadband access, multiservice switching, and internetworking products for the global telecommunications carriers and service providers. The products and start-up companies Mr. Shah has been involved with have generated more than $1 billion in revenues.
