NTT's R&D promotes research and development activities focusing on fundamental technologies for next-generation network
architecture development based on comprehensive network design concepts. There are six NTT R&D Centers across Japan.
One of them is NTT Yokosuka R&D Center. The Center looks ahead to the coming information sharing society of the 21st
century, and develops the new technologies and services needed to move ahead.
At NTT Yokosuka R&D Center, visitors can gain insight on a wide range of technologies central to the building of our future information society. Some of the selected fields of research and development include the creation of new principles and concepts that will revolutionalize telecommunications; production of network infrastructure and multimodal information sharing services; and integration of photonic, wireless, and software technologies for realizing the information sharing society.
At NTT DoCoMo's R&D exhibition hall, WHARF (Wealth, Human Activities, and Revolution for the Future), visitors gain a
glimpse of the DoCoMo's vision for the future mobile communications and its current research and development activities.
DoCoMo is striving to create a mobile communications environment where people and all things connect: a mobile
community contributing to richer, more convenient and dynamic lifestyles.
Visitors can view DoCoMo R&D's initiatives in the state of the art visual theater; experience DoCoMo's vision of future lifestyle through visuals and virtual reality; enjoy DoCoMo technologies hands-on, including a head-mounted display with 360 degrees horizontal projection system; and see various exhibits of DoCoMo R&D.
Alcatel-Fujitsu 3G Reality Centre (3GRC) delivers a unique showcase of the mobile offerings. Here operators can witness a full
range of new and exciting mobile services in a live broadband environment.
Visitors to 3GRC in Yokosuka can personally experience 3G communications with voice in circuit mode and data and high speed video images in packet mode, including web browsing, MMS, instant message, file transfer protocol (FTP), video streaming and Internet Access. All this is running on the latest Evolium 3G equipment and solutions, leveraging Fujitsu's advanced experience in 3G, with Alcatel's expertise in GSM, GPRS and EDGE.
