Self-Managing Broadband: Driving Profitability

This panel will convey key lessons that three of the world's leading DSL operators have learned as they have undertaken their respective paths towards self-managing broadband services. Motive

Mr. Castelino oversees the industry marketing activities for Motive's self-management solutions, which include broadband, home networking, next-generation voice and video, and application-management products. Before joining Motive, he held management consulting positions with A.T. Kearney and Andersen Consulting LLP, where he developed e-business and automated customer-service strategies for global manufacturing, telecommunications, and health-care clients. Mr. Castelino earned his B.S. in computer science and electrical engineering from Purdue University and his M.B.A. from Cornell University.

Toshihide Higashida, Manager, Marketing, Broadband Solutions Business, ACCA Networks Co., Ltd.

Daniel Newman, Market Analyst, Communications, IDC Japan, conducts research and analyses of the fixed-line telecommunications services market in Japan. The core of his research is cutting-edge WAN services such as IP VPN and wide-area Ethernet, with additional analyses performed on the VoIP and broadband access services markets. Mr. Newman regularly analyzes major trends and movements in the Japan telecommunications market. Prior to joining IDC Japan, he worked for a U.S. affiliate of the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan's leading business newspaper.

Nicolas Van den Abeele, Vice President, Access Networks Division, Asia-Pacific, Alcatel, has broad experience in the telecom industry and has held various management positions at Alcatel in Europe and in Central and Latin America. Previously, Mr. Van den Abeele spent seven years working for Alcatel in Brazil and Mexico and held the position of vice president of the Fixed Networks division for Central and Latin America. Prior to joining Alcatel, he worked at Andersen Consulting in several countries in Europe and on the deregulation of the European telecom industry in the early 1990s. Mr. Van den Abeele holds a degree in commercial engineering from the University of Louvain in Belgium and a master's degree and M.B.A. from the College of Europe and the Solvay School of Management, respectively.
