The SmartEdge High-Capacity 10Gbps Ethernet module is a single port, IEEE 802.3ae compliant, traffic card for use with the SmartEdge 400 and 800 Service Gateway platforms. The module provides 10Gbps wire speed performance for all packet sizes and although designed as an uplink, as opposed to a subscriber facing, module it provides excellent performance in certain subscriber facing applications such as high throughput LNS.

The SmartEdge 10Gbps Ethernet card utilises small form factor XFP plug-in modules to support rapid reconfiguration and provide maximum flexibility in leveraging existing fibre plant. The module is designed to support a wide range of XFP transceivers including, but not limited to, SR, LR, ER, CWDM and DWDM.

When combined with Redback's high-density Gigabit Ethernet subscriber interfaces the 10Gbps Ethernet module enables extensive consolidation of Ethernet aggregation into existing SmartEdge Service Gateway platforms.

The SmartEdge 10Gbps supports Jumbo Frames and is NEBS III compliant.

Available in 4 port, 10 port and 20 ports variants these high-performance modules enable cost-effective migration to Ethernet based application delivery while delivering high capacity subscriber control and highly optimized services for the most demanding converged and triple play broadband network deployments.

All three modules have been designed to support sophisticated traffic management, such as advanced hierarchical QoS, scheduling, policing, rate-limiting and shaping capabilities on a per-subscriber, per-application and per-flow basis with eight dynamically configured queues per subscriber.

These features allow service providers to meet the unique demands of large-scale, converged subscriber deployments such as; VoIP, on-demand video and HDTV, by delivering enhanced QoS and allowing them to evolve their networks to deliver comprehensive differentiated services.
