Wi-Fi and Broadband Mobility/Portability
One of the primary drivers for next generation converged packet networks is going to be the broadband deployment. The mode of broadband access, however, would depend upon the services that need to be rolled out and the economics of the access technology available for it. Over a period of time multiple types of broadband access technologies have become available.
As more and more options of broadband become available - xDSL, Cable, Metro Ethernet, Wi-Fi, PON, etc. there is going to be a need to unbundle services from the access so that consumers get seamless experience as they move from one mode of access to another. The broadband mobility/portability is critical for success of wider deployment of broadband, with choice of mode of access. On one hand this will allow Service Providers to build billable services over multiple types of access, on the other hand, it will allow the end users to get a seamless experience as they move from one type of access to another.
