Security in Ethernet Broadband Access Networks
The need for privacy and network security is increasing as more sensitive information is transported over broadband networks by users and businesses due to more distance working, online banking, gaming, etc. As broadband network penetration increases steadily, operators are faced with security challenges in every part of the network.
Because Ethernet is being introduced as the only viable technology for reaching universal broadband access, the questions around security and quality of service must be addressed. There are a number of mechanisms used when building these public Ethernet networks that will safeguard the network from security breaches and malicious attacks while providing traceabililty for traffic. This session will examine such technology strategies and the options available moving forward for service providers. Topics to be covered include:
- Demands on broadband network security and how operators are addressing it
- How to build public Ethernet networks with sufficient security and quality of service mechanisms
- Firewall products and other tools for network security
