PON vs. DSL
This session will cover the various deployment experiences and plans of the access networks by the operators who provide full service and/or broadband access services. The target access networks to be discussed will be the optical access networks such as PON and the DSL copper access networks including the business backgrounds and requirements for the networks and the network evolutional scenarios.
The session speakers will discuss the following issues in each presentation:
- Several access architectures and their business backgrounds
- Deployment experiences and their future trends of the access networks
- Optical access systems such as Media Converter and PON access systems including B-PON, G-PON and GE-PON.
- DSL systems including ADSLs and VDSL
- Regulatory issues such as bundle and unbundling of the accesses
- Etc.
Chairperson:
Yoichi Maeda, Senior Manager of Global Strategy, Group Leader of Full Service Access Group, NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories, has been engaged in research and development on access network transport systems for broadband communications including SDH, ATM and IP. Since 1989, he has been an active participant in ITU-T Study Groups 13 and 15.
