Local-Loop Evolution to Support Services

This session will examine architectures to evolve the existing local loop to deliver broadband and next-generation services. The session will explore next-generation service bundles and review alternative broadband access architectures, including converged access gateways, alternative access (e.g., integrated access devices [IADs]), and the deployment of DSL in existing outside plant solutions. The session will culminate with a service provider's perspective to provide insights on business realities, evolving network visions, and knowledge gained from real-world converged access and services bundling.

Chairperson

Leita Lewis, Senior Manager, Succession Strategic Marketing, Nortel Networks, works in the broad portfolio of carrier voice-over-packet products. Her 18-year career at Nortel includes extensive product marketing, product management, and software-development experience.

Jon Glass, Director, Product Management, Catena Networks, is currently responsible for product management of Catena's two broadband access platforms: the CNX-5 Broadband DSL System and the CN1000 Broadband Loop Carrier.

Albert Wong, Managing Director, New World Telephone LTD, is leading the company to evolve from a Hong Kong-based telecom operator to a regional carrier with particular emphasis in the Greater China market. Mr. Wong is also a director of New World Telephone Holdings Limited.
