MPLS Status, Direction, and Migration Issues This session will focus on the status of multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) deployments in service-provider networks and discuss issues that have arisen during these deployments as well as the direction that future deployments are likely to take. Issues that will be discussed include service-provider experiences, both positive and negative; the ability and likelihood of carriers using MPLS to converge multiple services onto a single backbone network; remaining standardization issues; OSS availability and integration; and protection, signaling, multicast, and inter-domain concerns.
Chairperson Andrew G. Malis, Chief Technologist, Vivace Networks, has been active in wide-area data networking and telecommunications for more than 25 years, beginning with ARPANET, the foundation of today's Internet. His current responsibilities include Vivace Networks' product architecture, future product planning, standards participation coordination, and customer consultation. Speakers Lamar Pearce, Project Manager, BellSouth Telecommunications, provides support for the regional operations centers and the business/residential repair centers. Stan King, Vice President, Systems Engineering, Vivace Networks, has more than 15 years of experience in the design and implementation of network infrastructure products to major carriers. Thomas Walsh, Principal Network Consultant, Lucent Technoligies, is responsible for Lucent Multiservice Switching Division technical contributions to standards, standards strategies, standards representation at industry forums, as well as technical consulting on MPLS. |
