Assuring Information Security in Wireless Networks Security has moved from afterthought status to front and center in the minds of enterprise IT managers, wireless carriers, and consumers alike. Wireless technology, the fastest growing, most feature-rich area of telecommunications technology, introduces a wealth of security challenges as networks are loosened to provide broader access. Ensuring wireless network security is now viewed as a strategic business imperative as opposed to an IToriented technical problem. This session will address the state of wireless network security today, current best practices for securing wireless networks, and future industry directions. A specific area of emphasis will be 802.11-based wireless LANsthe latest and fastest growing wireless technology.
Chairperson Timothy Allwine, Director, VeriSign, directs VeriSign's Clearinghouse Services business, where he is responsible for life-cycle product management, new product development, strategy development, and operations oversight for VeriSign's toll clearinghouse, revenue administration, and OSS interconnection services. He also leads VeriSign's WLAN roaming and settlement initiatives. Speakers Shai Guday, Group Program Manager, Wireless and Mobility, Windows Networking Division, Microsoft, has also served as the product unit manager at MSN.com and the program manager for Microsoft Cluster Services on Windows 2000. Thomas Hardjono, Principal Scientist, VeriSign, is responsible for new technologies in security, including certificates and PKI management, WLAN security, and digital rights management. Greg Homan, Director, Technology, Nextel Communications, has almost 10 years of hands-on experience managing software development and network design. |
