Security in IP Networks

This TecForum will cover basic and advanced topics in modern network security. The day will begin with an in-depth tutorial on security basics, covering the various approaches to fully securing a multiprotocol IP network. Special emphasis will be placed on the interdependencies between carrier and enterprise networks. The tutorial will also peer into the fast-moving world of wireless security. A lively panel, including a service provider, an enterprise IT manager, a security analyst, and an equipment vendor, will present its experiences from the "front line" and will host an extensive Q&A session. Throughout the event, live demonstrations will help to underline the key principles of network security.

9:30 am - 10:30 am
Introduction and Market Overview
Dario Zamarian, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, ServGate Technologies

10:30 am - Noon
Security 101: Multi-Layer Security in IP Networks
This back-to-basics tutorial covers all of the steps required to fully secure an IP network at all protocol layers. Emphasis will be placed on securing against external threats (such as hackers, DoS attacks, viruses, and worms), securing against internal threats (such as unlawful/unproductive use of network assets, source IP address spoofing), as well as protecting all layers of the network. The tutorial will also cover basic considerations when benchmarking and selecting security devices for various network environments, including live demonstrations showing how various load conditions and network attacks effect the network.
John Kenney, Vice President, Technology, and Chief Technology Officer, Spirent Communications
Dr. Jun Li, Director, Platform Technology, ServGate Technologies
Matt Dreyer, Senior Marketing Engineer, ServGate Technologies

Noon - 1:00 pm
TecForum Luncheon

1:00 pm - 1:45 pm
Wireless Security: The New Wild West
Contrary to popular belief, there is such a thing as wireless security, although the threats and solutions are evolving very rapidly. This tutorial details the current issues in wireless IP security and details alternative solutions to securing wireless LANs, mobile wireless devices, and other popular wireless networking devices.
John Sebes, Chief Architect, Autonomic Networks

1:45 pm - 2:30 pm
The New Security Ecosystems: Interdependence of Carrier and Enterprise Networks
Network security is no longer just an enterprise networking topic. As security threats trend toward sophisticated DoS attacks aimed at crippling the enterprise IT infrastructure, the carrier networks are just as important in fighting attacks as the enterprise firewall. This tutorial will discuss the evolution of a new security ecosystem in which carrier networks, enterprise networks, and the logic that binds them together will be the ultimate defense in detecting and even preventing attacks before they cause damage.
Livio Ricciulli, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Reactive Network Solutions

2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Live from the Lines: A Panel of Security Veterans
Join a panel comprising a service provider, school district IT manager, security analyst, and equipment vendor for a candid report from the front lines of network security. This interactive discussion will cover current trends and issues in network security and shed light on how threats and solutions are likely to evolve in the next decade.
Jerry Brady, Chief Technology Officer, Guardent
Dr. Jun Li, Director, Platform Technology, ServGate Technologies
Jeff Wilson, Executive Director, Infoneticshy
Peter Young, Network Operations Coordinator, Rockford, Michigan Public Schools

4:30 pm - 5:00 pm
