Success Stories in PAN, WAN, and Broadband Wireless In Europe and the Asia-Pacific, mobile networks have experienced high penetration based on voice services. Using mobile handsets has become a way of life, reaching even our younger generations. At present we see a gradual shift toward data applications accessible through different networks and terminals. In this evolution, the operator's role is becoming that of an application aggregator. Several operators will discuss their strategy in this domain.
Chairperson Sylvie Ritzenthaler, Director, Alcatel, recently worked in the areas of new technologies, new markets, and strategic decisions for Newbridge Networks as technological strategy director, in close contact with carriers. She is presently working for Alcatel as director of strategy communication in the CTO department of Alcatel's headquarters. Speakers Pascal Correc, Director, Cegetel, is currently in charge of the SFR mobile network long-term architecture. A data specialist, he participated in several international projects involving IP and ATM networks. Daniel Lavina, Chief Technical Officer, Orange John Lipp, Director, Business Development, Alcatel Asia-Pacific, has been with Alcatel since 2000 and was with Newbridge Networks for five years before that, working in product management and marketing. Mr. Lipp has held a number of technical and management positions within the Asia-Pacific region throughout the last several years and has focused on mobile solutions for the last two years. Nobuharu Ono, President and Chief Executive Officer, NTT Docomo USA, has held variety of executive positions in the field of transmission. Prior to his current position at NTT DoCoMo USA, he became senior vice president of NTT America in 1989, responsible for the operation of the Pacific and Western divisions. |
