Broadband Access Technologies and Alternatives A new generation of high-bandwidth digital subscriber line (DSL) access technologies is brewing in the standards bodies. This session will pick out some of the most exciting, near-term improvements and expose them to the wider world. Topics will include enhancements to G.shdsl, symmetric very high–data rate DSL (VDSL) at carrier serving area (CSA) distances, bonding and inverse multiplexing for DSL, and inter-loop coordination to improve bandwidth. Speakers will focus on progress being made in the standards bodies as well as the technical aspects of the technology.
Chairperson Don McCullough, Senior Director, Valo Systems, is leading the product strategy for Valo's new business access product line. He has led the development of telecom access products for more than 12 years. He has enjoyed being on the cutting edge of integrated POTS and DSL, access softswitching, HDSL, and switched digital video for companies such as AFC, Westwave, PairGain, and BBT. Speakers George Hawley, Chairman, Gluon Networks, previously president and co-founder of Valo, Inc., has held various positions at other companies, as well. Behrooz Rezvani, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ikanos Communications, is an expert in spectral compatibility and high-speed system architecture. Prior to founding Ikanos, he established the AFC-Fremont Design Center, where he managed the development of VDSL and ADSL Lite line cards. Thomas Starr, Senior Member of the Technical Staff, SBC Ameritech, is responsible for the development and standardization of new local access technologies for SBC's network. These technologies include ADSL, HDSL, and VDSL. |
