Intelligent Multiple-Vendor Metro Architectures

The "last mile" is perhaps the most complex and diverse application of technology in telecommunications. It is also an area of great opportunity for state-of-the-art technology innovation. The copper loop of yesterday is already being replaced by technologies like DSL, cable modems, passive optical networks, fixed wireless and even free-space laser. New networking capabilities like Ethernet, optical switching and WDM also add to the complexity and capabilities. As these new technologies become more available, different intelligent devices or systems required to interoperate will need to be provided by the carriers.

  • Less expensive and more efficient ways of aggregating resulting traffic and interfacing
  • Legacy switching and transport plant

CHAIRPERSON:

Dana Hartgraves, Vice President, Metro-Optix, has more than 17 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to joining Metro-Optix, she was director of sales for CLECs at Alcatel USA. During her extensive tenure at Alcatel, she held a wide variety of positions in research and development, network engineering and marketing - both product marketing and product-line management.

SPEAKERS:

Greg Wolfe, Principal Member, Technical Staff, Sprint Technology Planning & Integration, has been involved with the maintenance, engineering and planning of long-distance networks for the past 30 years.

John Hemingway, Director of Product Management, Metro-Optix, has over 19 years experience in the telecommunications industry with both voice and data products.

Man Wing Fong, Senior Product Planner, White Rock Networks, is responsible for planning all aspects of operation communications as well as GMPLS-based control-plane and network-management systems within White Rock Networks' building-block family of metro optical networking products.
