Metro Access – Shattering the Last-Mile Barrier

Transforming last-mile access from the trickle of a garden hose to the power of a fire hose is the golden promise of metro access networks. As customer's desire, and service providers build, metro networks, key architectural, technological and operational questions remain unanswered. This dynamic session will explore the many issues facing service providers building high-bandwidth, service-rich metro networks with insight from both a greenfield metro startup and an established telecom providers.

8:30 am – 8:45 am
 Introduction to Metro Access
A. Jared Headley, Manager, Product Marketing, Cisco Systems
8:45 am – 9:30 am
Innovative Network Services that Deliver Revenue Today
With the rapid changes in the economy, the flood of bandwidth powered by metro access and a focus on delivering what can drive revenue today, this speaker will discuss their success in delivering services that power revenue. The speaker will also take a leap forward as we explore the host of new services made possible as we shatter the bandwidth barrier.
A Service Provider Perspective
9:30 am – 10:30 am
Integrating Metro Access into Today's Network Infrastructure
While radical changes will occur in the last-mile as metro networks are built, service providers must integrate these new networks into existing architectures and technologies. This session will explore the operational aspects of building, integrating and maintaining high-performance, service-rich metro access networks.
Sean Doran, Chief Technical Advisor, Service Delivery, Ebone

The Business Case for Metro Networks
What are the financial metrics that are driving service providers to build and offer metro access services? These speakers will discuss what market and business factors drove them to set their target markets, how they managed to gain significant capital funding, and how they avoided the technology pitfalls associated with building a next-generation network.
Connie DeWitt, Vice President, Sigma Networks
Bill Euske, Chief Technology Officer, Sigma Networks
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
TecForum Luncheon
