Trends in IP Technology

Carriers are experiencing a growing demand for high-bandwidth, quality-assured IP–based services. The growing demand for these services, forces service providers to aggressively search for solutions that accommodate the dramatic growth in network traffic while ensuring differentiated services for their customers. To do so in a cost-effective way, carriers must ensure that both the capital costs of scaling the network and operational costs of offering an ever-widening selection of services are minimized.

  • Pushing today's IP core networks to their limit
  • Fiber-to-the-home technologies
  • ISPs looking for increased efficiency and profits
  • Voice and broadcast moving under IP umbrella
  • IP must evolve from best-effort to guaranteed services
